During the academic year, the joint seminar is
held twice a month.
On the first Friday of every calendar month,
provided it falls in the academic year,
the joint seminar is held at Caltech.
On the third Friday of every calendar month,
provided it falls in the academic year,
the joint seminar is held at UCLA.
At UCLA, The seminar starts at 3 pm, at Caltech,
the seminar starts at 3.20 pm. The seminar
lasts for one or two hours, with at least a 15 min
break in the latter case.
2) Lecturers
For every event, both Caltech and UCLA are equally
responsible for inviting the speaker(s). The default is
that each sides has one of the possible two slots available,
the guest side has the first and the host side the second
speaker.
There is no need to have two lectures, so one side can
opt out of presenting a speaker without the event being
cancelled. (The event is cancelled if no one presents a
speaker). Occasionally, one side will present both
speakers, if the other side agrees.
At least one webpage containing the coordinates of every
scheduled lecture will be maintained as soon as the information
becomes known.
Occasionally one (very rarely two) of the lectures could be a graduate
student's presentation meant mainly for a graduate student's audience.
3) Dinner
Often a number of participants will be interested in dinner
with the speaker(s) in a nearby restaurant. Six o'clock is a
good time.
4) Miscellaneous
All involved faculty try to avoid scheduling courses after
2pm on Fridays.
