Interested in developing your own research project? Do you want to work toward social justice? Do you enjoy being active in the communities of Los Angeles?
The UCLA Center for Community Learning is now accepting applications for the 2016 Astin Civic Engagement Scholars Spring Training Program. The Helen S. and Alexander W. Astin Civic Engagement Scholars Program supports the work of a select group of students who will conduct research on social issues in the Los Angeles region during their senior year. Over the course of a full academic year, students integrate academic coursework with experience gained from an internship with a community organization. Each scholar will produce a comprehensive research thesis by the end of their senior year.
The Astin Spring Training program is open to current juniors. Students chosen to participate in the 2016 Spring Training Program will be eligible to apply to the senior year Astin Scholars program. Senior Scholars chosen to continue for the 2016-17 academic year will be awarded a scholarship to support their research. (Only those students who are admitted to and successfully complete the Spring Training program will be allowed to apply to the senior year program.)
