Introduction

The Summer School will take place from June 27 - July 3. 2009 at Snowbird Resort, Utah.

The typical participant will be a graduate student or postdoc and not an expert on the topic, but interested in jointly learning a new subject.

Participants will be required to prepare a 2h lecture on some topic in advance, and submit a 4-6 page summary of their topic prior to the summer school, at the latest June 15. The topics are listed here.

The Summer School is one of a series of Summer Schools funded by NSF grants. This year, the school is a joint venture with the Mathematical Research Communities program by the AMS, and largely funded by that program.

Saturday June 27 will be the arrival day. >From Sunday to Friday the participants will give the lectures that they have prepared in advance.

Registration

Space is limited to 18 participants.

Accommodation and travel will be funded.

If you would like to participate, do both of the following: 1) register through the AMS online form , and 2) send an email to thiele@math.ucla.edu by February 29, 2009 indicating your top 2-3 preferences for assigned topic from the topics list . Please describe your professional status (graduate student, postdoc, etc) your area of research and your motivations for participating in the summer school.

The organizers will be happy to answer questions on the assigned topics anytime.
